MG Historical Research is based in New Zealand and we deal with your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 including Information Privacy Principle 3A (IPP3A) which came into force on 1 May 2026.This privacy statement outlines what personal information the company collects (either directly or indirectly), how we store, use and share it, and how you can access or correct your personal information. We are committed to protecting your privacy when you visit our website or contact us in any way.

Collecting your personal information directly
MG Historical Research may collect personal information from you, including:
- your name
- your contact information
- any other relevant background information you share with us
We collect this information in order to respond to your enquiry.
Indirect collection of personal information (IPP3A)
We may indirectly receive information about someone who is not a client. You may share with us details of your family history, including information on living people, or we may collection information through a third-party.
Using your personal information
MG Historical Research collects and uses your personal information to:
- provide our research services to you
- conduct research on your behalf
- respond to communications with your
- invoice or receive payment from you
Sharing your personal information
Any information you supply to us will not be shared with any third party, unless you have given us permission to do so.
Why we may not notify the subject of indirect collection
PP3A ordinarily requires us to take reasonable steps to notify an individual when their personal information has been collected indirectly. However, in the context of genealogy work, one or more of the following exceptions will often apply:
- The personal information is already publicly available
- No prejudice to the subject
- Not reasonably practicable
- Purpose would be undermined
- The individual has already been made aware of the privacy policy of the third-party
How we store and protect personal information
We keep your information safe by storing it on password-protected computers and which only our staff can access.
